"Biometric Devices" doesnt exist in control panel
Hi, I am using windows 7 build 7100. My laptop has a built in fingerprint reader, with all the drivers installed. It shows up correctly as a "Biometric Device" in the device manager, which says its installed properly. However, in my control panel, the "Biometric Devices" option does not exist. The fingerprint reader works finewith the "Acer Bio Protection" application, but I would prefer to use the built-in windows feature.

Roc13x, Windows 7 probably avoided installing a Control Panel item which had not been previously certified for compatibility with the new OS in order to ensure stability. I'd recommend using the external application until Acer is supporting Windows 7.-Alex

Thanks, the feature was disabled because even though its driver got it recognized as a biometric device, it wasnt the right one for biometric functions in windows. I found this beta windows 7 driver: http://www.validityinc.com/post.aspx?id=142 It caused the Biometric Devices option to enable and the sensor is now working with windows. I hope this is helpful to anyone else with a fingerprint device from Validity Sensors, Inc.

Yes, this is by design. If not reader is classified as WBF (Windows Biometric Framework) compatible, than the Bio devices cpl will not show. This is the same amongst all biometric devices. Validity, Upek, and Authentec are the only manufacturers that I have seen that develop a WBF driver for use with the built-in FP functions in Windows 7+.
